I could right beside his ears No response I slammed the door as hard as I could Still no response I could have returned him to the pet farm Afterall it has only been 5 days since I got him After a short discussion with my mother we decided to keep him I called Patrick immediately and explained Oscar s situation to him I was extremely frantic and worried Patrick simply said Oh he s really deaf That s sad But we can train him with hand signals lah Patrick was so calm I couldn t believe it I ve never seen any deaf dogs training in my life could this really be done I was skeptical but that s an understatement I bombarded Patrick with a million questions the next training session Patrick assured me it could be done and I really shouldn t be so worried I was already training my other 2 dogs with Waggie s but this one really tested my patience and limits So one day I sat Oscar down and had a talk with him This was absolutely not possible at that time he was simply too naughty Okay fine I leashed him up and gave him a piece of my mind not that he could hear but it did make me feel better I made a pact with my big monster I told him that no matter what it takes I will train him for obedience competitions to the most advanced levels and the only thing I needed him to do was simply show everyone that it was possible for a deaf dalmatian to do it Of course I didn t have to He could have just stayed at home and be a regular dog He s not a top dog and he doesn t necessarily have to be However more than anything else I wanted him to be an inspiration to everyone and a legacy that everyone would remember More than once I ve seen people give up or abandon their dogs with the reason that their dogs were unamangaeable and untrainable I was and still am hoping that Oscar would help change that situation Despite being deaf Oscar managed to prove himself at the SKC trials Despite his little handicap Oscar is the happiest dog I know Sometimes I think his world is just rainbows and sunshine The greatest part about his deafness is the peace and quiet that comes along with it He could sleep through the noisiest day and have no clue what s going on at all For all of you out there who think that your dog cannot make it think again Oscar is living proof that with determination and excellent guidance thanks to Waggie s anything is possible Last edited by Jiapei on 24 Aug 2009 11 36 edited 2 times in total Jiapei Posts 9 Joined 21 Jul 2009 10 28 Top Re How to deal with a deaf dalmatian by patrick 24 Aug 2009

the presence of other dogs I still remember vividly when Nitro flunk his first test because he ran off during the off leash heel work TWICE It disrupted the test because Nitro ran in circles and we took sometime to catch him back We did not give up and came back for more trainings only passing on the second test After the basic obediance class we signed up with Waggie s intermediate class Training was even more tough because we were training to join competitions Nitro did not really like the Stand exercise I swear we took like 5mths to get him to respond to it when other dogs takes only weeks Nitro flunk his first obediance trial again when he poo half through the course On his second obediance trial he sit down on the Stand for examination exercise and did not get onto the podium finishes Finally on the third obediance trial he surprised everyone by clinching champion for both the pre novice and novice category Finally he made us proud parents haha Looking back at the past 1 and a half years of training it was all worth while Now i am able to bring Nitro out for walks without leash When i see people who are uncomfortable with dogs one heel command and he will come back to our sides without fail When we bring Nitro out to house visits we can put him on down stay and he will be a good boy and stay there Every JRT owners that we came across is impressed by how well trained Nitro is but little do they know that Nitro is still as naughty like any other JRT s when playing with us I present the before and after training pictures of Nitro Results are Guaranteed Before training After training Hoehoe Posts 54 Joined 14 Jul 2009 17 26 Top Re Welcome to Waggie s obedience training classes by hapichan 27 Jul 2009 10 38 woofs Hi I am Hapi Chan also known as the emo dog to many and affectionately called fatty bombom to my Master M and Mistress MS Well I am 2 years old and I have been attending school at Waggies since I was 4 months old but had a term break for awhile I think going to school at Waggies has made me a better person that is what my M and MS says I am a repeat student for my basic class as I ran off during my off leash during examination as something else was more interesting than my master s recall I remembered when I turned 3 5 months old both my M MS got really freaked out as they thought I have turned from this innocent thing to this aggressive fella that tries to bite everything including their arms and legs So they decided to call Waggies but were assured that I was not suffering from any aggression and was just going through the typical puppy nipping stage

June the groomer was telling me that rAscal was jumping from left to right right to left in the back seat of the car while rusty just stayed in the middle She thought it was quite amusing I told her that this is what I deal with when they are in my car Sometimes at home if Rusty was in rAscal s way he would just jump over him Anyhow back to my car Two days ago the car handle gave way and broke I reckon it couldn t take the constant yanking of the leash when rAscal jumps around Oh did I mention that he also scratched the solar film off one of my car windows I think he just has too much energy Y day night after training I thought he was gonna be tired and would fall asleep right after having dinner since that was what happened on Sunday evening but he came to me with his toy to play fetch Was the moon blue last Sunday r r Posts 59 Joined 16 Jul 2009 10 48 Top Re Broken Pieces by Hoehoe 16 Oct 2009 16 42 You have a Nitro that is bigger in size with a lot more fur lol Thats why i choose a small dog Hoehoe Posts 54 Joined 14 Jul 2009 17 26 Top Re Broken Pieces by serenebima 24 Oct 2009 12 49 hahaa poor Rusty you should get a car seat for him to sit the corner so Rascal cannot disturb him http img photobucket com albums v40 angelicb sale SP7 jpg hmmm why don t you get the dog safety harness that doubles as a doggy seatbelt in the car for Rascal this way he will be strapped to the seat like us cannot jump around http www
