2010 at 12 16 AM Yes we should all make an effort to print on both sides but there are other ways to save paper when printing We can also reuse paper that already has content and print on the backside of them when printing out notes to study or anything that does not have to look presentable crazymadzy said on 02 August 2010 at 9 55 PM Totally agree There are still a lot of people who prefer to print one sided I think this is a selfish act especially when we have a 50 page report or something of that sort If it s printed on both sides it would be 25 pieces of paper The other 25 pieces of paper can be used by others And at the same time we can save papers and trees All we need is to press a button that says DOUBLE SIDED Let s lead the way make a difference Press DOUBLE SIDED button from now on le bydaylight said on 02 August 2010 at 10 26 PM Yup It s a really simple mindset to communicate and remember and if everyone from students to working adults follow this there s no doubt that we can help save the environment just that much more Double spacing should also be banned X notsosunnily said on 02 August 2010 at 11 07 PM Printers were invented to make a lot of things easier But now people take for granted that paper is readily available and print recklessly The problem with printers is not always whether people print on both sides or not Sometimes it s the problem with the amount of times you print Admit it most of us DMC students have been into Studio 19 to print our reports or CAs and

have indeed start inventing new and innovative ways to save the environment For example German airports uses bees to monitor air quality Beekeepers at eight airports in Germany keep hives nearby and the airports test their honey for toxins It s called biomonitoring meaning using nature to test for environmental conditions and the air quality at these airports seems to be doing just fine Therefore not only can we invent but we can also use what nature has given us and make the best out of it NEWater 2010 In recent news it is reported that Singapore s future water demand is set to double by 2060 and Singapore will ramp up its desalination and NEWater capacity in a bid to become self sufficient in its water supply Remember the early days of NEWater when it first got introduced How skeptical our citizens were How far do you think Singapore has By lonerwolf321 on 01 Jul 2010 Comment Like Report 3 Comments fionaseah when NEWater was first introduced it was not as popular because many were skeptical about the origin of the water i e how the water is renew does the process involve extracting water out of waste eww but I guess as years go by we gradually embrace this technology because no one ever got hurt from drinking it and NEWater always comes free as a door gift so it s easier for people to accept it therefore i think Singapore has more or less succeeded in its first step to becoming water independent i think not many countries would follow suit because of cost and unlike tiny little natural resources deprived singapore they have easier access to natural water so i guess they don t see the need to introduce such technology as yet alvin2 I feel that NEWater is a great idea by the government I think that majority of the Singaporeans still feel that NEWater is not a good idea because it is gross and so on But if there ain t enough water to meet the demands of Singaporean NEWater would be an invaluable asset michelleang i think it was a great idea not only earth friendly but also economically i think it made us more self sufficient and definitely less needy Korea Their Green Songs Save Earth Save Energy South Korea has been releasing green songs featuring various popular pop groups on their music shows frequently that are targeted at youths What do you think Do you think these songs are useful or would the youths be too caught up watching their idols and forget the message Should Singapore do the same too Video By winson55 on 30 Jun 2010 Comment Like Report 1 Like shyonshii like this 10 Comments jade Similar to the Live Earth event such efforts to reinforce and promote going green reach out to a large group of youths We all know about going green and all these pop idol acts serve as a reminder to their fans This

even better we should just send the reports by email xian said on 02 August 2010 at 1 50 AM Yes i agree printing it in single line space can save a lot of paper it can also save us money if your paper is constantly running out watch what you print i d always run out of paper and finally i realise i was printing a lot of useless stuff now i only use it to print assignment blinglim said on 02 August 2010 at 10 27 PM I agree too It is a real waste of paper Also I second what Jordan said we should just send the reports by mail because in the end I believe the reports printed out in paper would not be used by most of us again Also I would like to bring up the issue of assignments that is needed to be burnt into CDs I find that it is also a real waste of CDs because most of the times when we burn our relevant assignments be it an audio or video onto the CD it will only take up a small portion of the whole size of the CD and then after that it would not AND can not be used anymore I find that it is more environmentally friendly if we could just hand in those works through perhaps a thumb drive email or maybe the whole class can burn their works onto just a CD dorkyain said on 02 August 2010 at 11 49 PM I agree They make us put in double spacing every singe time and it just wasting paper It is so much better to just pass them the documents through thumb drive because it doesn t waste any paper or any other resources for that matter like ink and CDs pfang said on 03 August 2010 at 8 23 AM I agree Double spacing may make it easier to read but it doubles the number of pages too More paper will be used in this way in addition to the single sided printing I think that it can be compromised between professionalism and being environmentally friendly I agree with blinglim too on the usage of CDs for submission of assignments It will be great if the CD can be reused for other assignments by renaming the files correctly or sharing a CD with the whole class bluefairy said on 03 August 2010 at 9 51 AM I agree 100 with all the comments above So what if double spacing makes the documents easier to read why bother about convenience when the environment is at stake Single spacing and double sided printing or even better as Jordan mentioned hand in digital copies of the reports instead As for audio video assignments why not hand it in via thumb drive or BlackBoard We ve done it for class assignments why not implement the same method for CAs too Save resources save Earth denzelljy said on 04

August 2010 at 9 46 PM Well I guess it will be tough for us to say at the moment However I am sure that even if the heats dies down people are now more aware about the current problems Gaia is facing and that they are now equipped with green knowledge Though it may sounds like nothing but it is the first step in getting our youths to green their lifestyle Yes it may take sometime for people to really feel for the cause and be an environmental activist but I believe it is possible that more of our youths will be roped in into the journey of saving Gaia anlesytx said on 03 August 2010 at 10 55 PM Yes I agree It is hard to say at the moment because we will never know what comes after the Green March After all life is too hectic for each of our own to handle and I suggest that we should all reflect voice out implement and start acting on our part The act of saving the Earth has been going on for decades and decades but many of us have been taking this issue too lightly I believe we can even work with our friends colleagues companies and businesses to come out with campaigns like what Singapore Polytechnic has been doing all this long If there is an increase on the news coverage about going green I m certain that the message of going green would be reinforced in the minds of all men and women sptammy said on 05 August 2010 at 12 57 AM I think that this is a significant and big step for Singapore Polytechnic As SP has mentioned its goal is to reach 60 trees by its 60th birthday I believe that Singapore

or to maintain a healthy lifestyle we will get incentives in a way or another I believe this is a brilliant idea especially in the Singaporean context We have nothing to lose but weight We don t lose money it s a perfectly win win situation But question now is are the organisations willing to start adapting this Time for the government to start promoting this to Singapore Are we going to help create more jobs for those who might be keen instead of meal vouchers perhaps people can get paid tanyanhan said on 04 August 2010 at 10 28 PM Hey I really like this idea It would definitely be an interesting one of a kind experience for the hotel guest You kill three birds with one stone You get to lose weight do your bid for the environment and get paid mohammadsyafiq said on 04 August 2010 at 10 44 PM hehehe i think this is a little too extreme don t you think all though it is in good faith but the poor fellow has to sweat and grunt for the hotel imagine those ladies in their fineries and the men in their shirts P lizziebee said on 30 August 2010 at 11 10 AM Hey I think this is a really interesting concept and I would not mind doing it However it seems like this is only offered to paying guests and passers by will not get a chance to contribute their energy Nevertheless if this proves successful I think that it should be adapted worldwide and everyone should be able to participate in it Sadly this supports the notion that people are taking to green causes only because they think it will make them money What are the chances that crowne plaza is just doing
