03 August 2010 at 10 01 PM i think its kind of sad that WHC decides that remove places from the list of Sites in Danger Every part of Earth is equally important and we should strive to preserve everything for our future generations But then again it is important note that we shouldnt be doing our part to save the area just become WHC deems it as in danger We should be doing our part daily regardless of the state of danger the place is in We are citizen of Mother Earth and this is our home for us to protect it jade said on 03 August 2010 at 10 47 PM This may not be such a wise decision at all Such places of natural environment and rare wildlife are increasingly being given up for more futuristic development of the country Removing the Islands from the list may decrease its significance and perhaps willingness of the public to preserve it Even so I agree that no matter whether a place is on WHC s danger list we should all be aware and mindful of the importance of conserving these natural sites annabellaftw said on 04 August 2010 at 11 35 PM I think it is sad that we need an organisation to implement rules on protecting the Earth We cannot expect the WHC to watch over all places in danger of being destroyed As citizens of this Earth we should be the ones playing a conscious effort to protect the environment Surely you do not go around destroying your own home and I m sure you do not need anyone to stop you from doing so Similarly we should not need a Mother Hen clucking at our actions all the time and constantly urging us to protect the

Jun Hao yiling1a02 I disagree that governments around the world aren t doing enough to save the earth Government had produced commercial that is related to going green The commercial includes people littering and they were eventually caught and being punished In Singapore the government organize this event Litter Free It is to engage everyone who is attending large scale events to take ownership of their litter and not leave any of their unwanted items behind for someone else to clear The event organizer would encourage participants and spectators alike to make a conscious effort to take away all their rubbish with them and deposit the rubbish in the litter bins provided This show that Government do put in effort to save the earth DICT FT 1A 02 YiLing P1031243 p1064007 Yes I agree that government isn t doing suficient to save the earth governments in the world should create more restrictions such as further limiting the emission of greenhouse gases from fuel companies These can be implemented at the meetings suchs as the kyoto protocol and such Although fighting against saving the earth is an uphill battle im sure the government can do more than just what they re doing now to further turn the tide of the battle for saving the earth iffah Yes I agree that the governments around the world aren t doing enough to save the earth There are many countries that still practice deforestation to build new buildings in order to enhance the country s developments They are also busy dealing with political and economic issues thus they have no time to initiate steps for saving the earth Iffah DICT 1A02 allytan We can t fully say that the governments around the world aren t doing enough to save the earth because no government would want their country to be in a bad shape so they definitely would do something to save help their own country and the earth For eg Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth s environment It was founded by U S Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach in held on April 22 1970 Earth Day is now celebrated in most countries of the world and Earth Day is a perfect time to reflect about what you are doing to help protect the environment There are many ways that you can celebrate alone and with others There is also the Earth Hour which is a global call to action to every individual business school and community to take a stand against climate change Hence we can t fully say that the goverments around the world aren t doing enugh to save the earth DICT 1A02 Ally Tan P1031045 cruxify Governments around the world have been either running or supporting in save the earth campaigns like save the rainforest save the endangered species recycling and the famous Earth Day founded by then US Senator Gaylord Nelson The governments are faced with contradicting situations in going green The solutions might seem so easy Stop any forms of transportation which uses fuel and electricity banned all import of natural material like timber and sky high charges for clearing the thrash etc These solutions might solve some issues but will definitely create another set of problems altogether It is always easy to point the finger at the governments and expect them to solve the problems The governments have to do the balancing act of ensuring changes are made in an acceptable pace to their respective citizens and to the world For example world governments banned the consumption of shark fins altogether to ensure the survival of sharks and also prevent inhumane ways of finning Restaurant owners seafood importers exporters fishermen and all who are in this trade will be either making less profit or going jobless altogether Worse still other endangered species might be targeted to replace shark fins To make changes government must be tactful hence rather than apprehending the culprits consumers are discouraged to consume delicacy of such nature This example can be applied to the all the man made issues that our earth is facing World governments can only save our earth when all of us around the world support the cause We can have numerous campaigns annually but saving the earth is definitely a daily effort by everyone and not just our government It is after all our earth cruxify Governments around the world have been either running or supporting not just our government It is after all our earth Seth Ang P1062414 DICT 1A 02 clarissalim I disagree with the statement The governments around the world aren t doing enough to save the earth In the Uk the government promotes a campaign called save our earth This campaign aims to reduce the number of trees being cut down in the rainforest This is done by tackling the problem with illegal logging selective logging which has been found to reduce global biodiversity by destroying habitat for primary forest species and many other isuues In Singapore the government has implemented many policies and done alot to save the earth Recycling bins have been placed unde HDB blocks and there is also BYOBD bring your own bag day which emphasises the need to recycle too The three R s are reduce reuse and recycle However not all governments policies are not successful For instance tackling the problem with illegal logging The forest is simply to wide and there are not enough manpower to patrol the entire rainforest but this does not mean that they did not put in any effort to save the earth It is not entirely the government s duty to save the earth Everyone has a part to save the earth as all of us uses the resources of the earth and stays on it We can do so by reducing the use of plastic bags bottles and such Teachers can help to educate the students in school Overall i feel that the governments around the world has done enough to save the earth everyone has a role to save the earth and all of us should do a part too clarissa lim DPCS 1B02 P1043888 eileenlove I agree that the governments around the world aren t doing enough to save the earth Even though they have held G8 summit to discuss emissions and although there are steps being made in the right direction to cut emissions not enough is being done The rainforests are still being destroyed The governments are not doing enough to secure the planets survival However I think that everyone should play a part in saving the earth not just by pushing the blame to the government We could all start recycling reusing and reducing and start cutting down on the use of plastics Eileen Chew DPCS 1B 02 P1044016 Au Yoke May Science Technology on GoGreen Issue Air travel creates more problems than benefits for the environment How far do you agree By hiwa on 15 Jul 2010 Comment Like Report 11 Comments shahnaz I do not agree with the statement that air travel creates more problems than benefits This may be an overgeneralisation However I am not also completely agreeing that air travel always brings benefits only because there are many negative sides to air travel Air travel is the best quickest and most effecient form of long distance travelling in the world today It helps people to travel comfortably to anywhere in the world in a very short time Compared to the past when most people hardly crossed their borders due to lack of transport facilities air travel is very beneficial to our society today because it helps people to cross borders easily interact with different people across the world It is an important factor for globalisation In the past even those travelled did so in ships which took an excruciatingly long time Today people can reach other countries within hours thanks to air travel Air travel is very beneficial to majority of the world s population who depend on aeroplanes to go to other countries for their many reasons such as for business tourism visiting family medical treatment etc Life would be very difficult without air travel for many people especially those who depend on air travel for their livelihood However air travel causes air pollution as well The fuel for the engine is converted to harmful greenhouse gases which could ultimately cause global warming However the benefits far outweigh the problem Even though there is pollution it is released at a relatively low level Cars on the road are worse than aeroplanes They pollute excessively Hence the problem of pollution could be counted as negligible SHAHNAZ SHAREEF DBS FT 1A 02 p1010644 I agree with this statement to a big extent Air travel does have more problems than benefits for the environment Air travel requires a lot of fuels When these fuels are burnt massive amounts of carbon dioxide are produced and emitted into the atmosphere Its emission has a severe impact on the environment as carbon dioxide is the primary cause for global warming and climate change Also it is estimated that a general round trip journey of an aeroplane produces as much carbon dioxide as what 5 people would produce in a year However I am also aware of a new discovery that suggests that air travel can be beneficial to the environment The idea is that jumbo jets form artificial clouds in the atmosphere which can reflect light away from the earth reducing global warming Still this is only a speculation due to insufficient evidence Therefore in the meantime air travel would continue to be thought to have more problems than benefits on the environment yingting93 Yes I agree Although air travel is by now the most efficient and fastest way of travel It has caused many adverse effects on our environment Air travel has been estimated to contribute between 3 to 30 of global warming Airafts are major sources of greenhouse gases particularly carbon dioxide water vapor and nitrogen oxides It is one of the principal contributors to global environmental problems such as climate change ozone depletion and the wasteful use of scarce raw materials Water vapor at high altitudes causes dual problems Firstly it leads to an increase in cirrus cloud formation which contributes to global warming and secondly it reacts with nitrogen oxide to destroy ozone in the Stratosphere second major layer of the earth s atmosphere above troposphere Though nitrogen oxide in the troposphere below the ozone layer contributes to ozone formation this does not help replenish the ozone layer as it is in the wrong place Instead it acts as a greenhouse gases and contribute to smog around airports Now the most important issue that us humans should take note of is global warming Although air travel can help us sustain our econmy it is gradually destroying our environment Without Mother Earth so what if the economy can be good and sustained Yingting DBS1A02 1010561 bydaylight I personally don t think it s right weighing the pros and cons of flight time Certain things require taking a plane it s that simple Whether it s to get home to your loved ones or attending an incredibly important meeting there is no doubt that planes can be involved That said I think we should step back and think before we go straight for the option of going for a flight about whether we re able to head to our destination using other methods like taking a cruise It honestly depends on the time that you have to go wherever you need to go yiling1a02 I agree to this sentence Air travel do creates more problems than benefits for the environment however air travel do benefits us Air travel uses up a large amount of fuel when burned its produces gases that is detrimental to the environment as gases includes carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gases and affect our atmosphere However air travel is a great benefit for us they made traveling time to shorten In the past transport medium is Ship boat etc They consumes lots of time and it is practically waste of time However with regard to the pollution problems vehicles on the road also contribute to this problem p1064007 I disagree that air travel creates more problem creates more problems for the environment than benefits In my opinion air travel is one of the most not only fuel efficient but also the safest in all kinds of travel methods For air travel it covers more distance per gallon of fuel than compared to car and ships or vessels Furthermore it also is able to transport more passengers and cargo than compared to both the other methods of travel Hence the carbon dioxide produced from the airplanes is lesser As in the ratio of carbon dioxide gas produced per passenger Thus air travel does not really create more problems for the environment but instead it is actually one of the most fuel efficient of all modes of travel asdjoasdjo I disagree to a large extent as air traveling is the only way for us to travel far distances Although we have land and water means of transports these ways of transports are only capable of travelling a shorter distance as compared to air means of traveling One of the way we can minimize the impact of air traveling is to transport more contents in the plane As the plane can contain more stuffs and people it can transport more goods or people at one time Therefore i disagree that air travel creates more problem than benefits as to travel around the world is not a short distance and only by air means of transport is one of the fastest way we can ever have asdjoasdjo I disagree to a large extent as air people to their destinations Some go for a holiday or simply visiting their family members Aircraft emissions and their impacts alone are enough to congest the atmosphere Aviation impacts the environment because aircraft engines emit noise particulates and gases which contribute to climate change and global dimming Despite emission reductions from automobiles and more fuel efficient and less polluting turbofan and turboprop engines the rapid growth of air travel in recent years contributes to an increase in total pollution attributable to aviation However there are many other sources that contributes more to the problems for the environment The burning of fossil fuels deforestation and other sources by mankind as well Iffah DICT 1A02 allytan Air travel does creates more problems than benefits for the environment Even though air travel is the most recently developed mode of transport and therefore the most modern Aircraft began to transport people and cargo as designs grew larger and more reliable However like all activities involving combustion operating powered air planes released greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide soot and other pollutants into the atmosphere Air travel is also an unsustainable form of transport as it consumes large quantities of untaxed non renewable fossil fuels and is a largely inappropriate form of internal travel Hence air travel does creates more problems than benefits for the environment DICT 1A02 Ally Tan P1031045 cruxify The Wright brothers first flew their machine Flyer on 17th December 1903 to realise their dream to fly Demands for air travel followed as travelling time is much shorter compared to travelling by land or sea Air travel is designed solely to save time
