environment Yet I think the lesson we can gather is not that we must go to great lengths over nature preservation Rather we should protect the environment without having others to go to such great lengths Here s the full article http www latimes com news local la me tobar 20100716 0 2145175 column page 1 bluefairy said on 03 August 2010 at 11 28 PM Great job A truly inspirational being that we can all emulate Who says that you have to be someone of a high status to make a difference She has set a great example that anyone and everyone can make a difference and save the environment She went through great lengths to highlight the plight of the river but we don t have to do that yet It would help if we threw our litter into rubbish bins so that when it rains the rain water doesn t flush the rubbish into the rivers Little acts like this can go a long way City rivers are some of the most polluted water ways Post your comments Latest Topics CDL s E Gen Challenge E Generation Challenge13 Recycled Stationary Items Deposit refund System Plant Vs Plastic

types of balloons This is because although balloons are relatively small items it is normally the case that many are used at once which means that the collective impact on the environment can be much larger than anyone would imagine jade said on 03 August 2010 at 11 28 PM Most of us use balloons as purely decorative items and they all end up as trash without having any specific purpose to them other than entertainment Why not forgo them and find alternatives instead For example forget the boring balloons during birthday parties You can reuse an old object and use your creativity That way you would be able to craft out something unique that you can t buy anywhere else jaynetoh said on 03 August 2010 at 11 35 PM I think that jade s suggestions are fabulous We can indeed come up with other creative ideas and use alternatives during parties or events I think that this will help to save cost because helium balloons are indeed expensive and useless after the event If being creative can help save the Earth by not polluting it when our helium balloon float into the sky why not It helps encourage us to squeeze our brain juice and come up with alternatives and think of unique decorations for parties and events Isn t great pizzamizza said on 04 August 2010 at 11 47 PM This is what happens when people don t tend to be bothered about such little things like how they will affect those around them whether near or far There are a whole lot of things that can be done for substitution It just depends on us whether we do or do not want to put in extra effort for all those One good substitution would be an

of paper go to after the scripts or reports are being vet by the lecturers Do they really end up in the recycling bins like they were supposed to or are do they get thrown away like they always do Mhmmm sharon9280 I don t doubt SP s recycling efforts I think those papers are usually kept for filing before being sent in bulk to factories for shredding and recycling But what I m really concerned is the usage of air conditioning within the premises Are they really necessary Not just that the usual temperature of air conditioners are set to below 20 degrees e g main library Moberly I hope that the green efforts don t just start from us students the estates being the one who can contribute most should set certain rules such as setting a timing lowest temperature for air conditioners Other than that the installation of sensors in toilets lights are switched on when movement is detected the system whereby electricity is cut off in a classroom once it s locked placing of recycling bins there can be more these moves are commendable Go SP Haha khairulariffin Personally I think SP has much to improve on in the area of going green When I stayed over in school to do a project most of their lights were still switched on in deserted areas of the school I think SP should cut down on printing notes on papers and have the students access their notes on laptops theverytallcp12 I think SP is indeed putting effort I ve seen posters and people walking around promoting the message Save Gaia However i agree that maybe SP should start turning off the lights of classes to go green Give them time Im sure things will get better han91 SP is trying their best to go green building all those things are also for the benefits of their student so do not blame it on SP I suggest that SP should build more gardens to grow more plants and trees its also a place for student to relax and chill out weirong Sounds like this very campaign is just for CSR greenism Indeed the question of whether SP is going green remains unknown However personally I feel that SP is doing its best for the environment This can be seen from the SP Go Green Movement that it has implemented this year Besides that I also noticed that more and more recycling bins are placed around Singapore Polytechnic The newly renovated toilets are also installed with lighting sensors where the lights will only be activated if a persons movement is detected in the toilet This goes to show that SP is indeed doing something for the environment But I feel that there is still room for improvement As what khairulariffin mentioned I noticed that lightings at most lecture halls are not turned off when they are not used especially at night rinka The efforts that SP put in is everyone

good idea if a few blocks of housing estate can share the different types of recycling bins at a common place Hopefully it will be easier for people to recycle things in the future jaynetoh said on 03 August 2010 at 11 15 PM I agree with you that there are very few recycle bins around us in Singapore For instance i can only find recycling bins in my school Singapore Polytechnic and near the train station I feel that Singaporeans should have the habit of classifying their waste disposing them in the right way and in the right bin We should learn to recycle I feel that the government can help by placing more recycling bins around the neighborhood or even under each block to help encourage more people to recycle Making recycling of waste more convenient will definitely help the nation to start going green denzelljy said on 04 August 2010 at 1 07 AM Yes sometimes I wished there were more recycling bins around to make feel good too But don t you think this only makes us more complacent and consume more because recycling is now more convenient How about exercising all 3Rs instead of just recycling and leaving everything to the government refer to sharon9280 s comment on High Recycling Rate topic teehee01 said on 04 August 2010 at 5 20 PM I agree that there s very few recycling bins around our neighbourhood I think that there s a need to increase the number of recycling bins to make recycling more convient for us and not throwing away our waste pizzamizza said on 04 August 2010 at 11 54 PM Maybe the whole purpose of not having it around the neighbourhood is because residents are highly unlikely to differentiate their different bins Or maybe
