beginning of a better world for all of us It s time to make a difference Yes let s all go green today dalvin89 said on 30 August 2010 at 3 32 AM Natural disasters are imminent but climate change has recently been the cause of many Heat waves in Europe have become much more likely the extreme temperatures of the summer of 2003 are estimated to have been 75 due to human influence Increased temperatures worsen drought conditions Precipitation events are getting more severe due to climate change Harder rainfall and shifts in rainfall patterns mean both increased likelihood of flash flooding and drought There may not be a change in large scale flooding Storminess in Europe may not have increased over the past century hurricane intensity has increased by 70 in the last 50 years Evidence for the influence of climate change is difficult to identify in the context of major natural cycles but observed changes are consistent with modelled effects of GHG emissions Read http www europarl europa eu comparl envi pdf externalexpertise ieep 6leg naturaldisasters pdf for more So we really have been contributing to the onslaught of natural disasters we ve witnessed in recent years

treat the environment As we become more educated about how conventional farming methods destroy top soil and pollute our waters etc it is only natural to want to buy food that has been grown by sustainable agricultural methods that avoid the unnecessary pollution caused by chemical fertilizers and pesticides Genetically Modified Organisms are another concern Through scientific intervention to improve crops mankind has potentially opened a Pandora s box by messing around with Mother Nature The long term damages caused by these biological experiments could be irreversible While government agencies argue they are perfectly safe the jury is still out One example of the damage that can be done by arranging nature is when people brought mongooses to Hawaii to get rid of the rats It did not work we still have plenty of rats and now unfortunately there are not as many native birds Hopefully people would recognise the health and environmental benefits of organic food and that it will soon be commonplace to find organic food at all supermarkets at an affordable price range nzyjordan said on 30 August 2010 at 2 31 AM organic food is neither more nutritious than conventional food nor necessarily less impactful on

to using cleaner energy for a change over fossil fuel sandyyy said on 29 August 2010 at 3 07 PM Almost 80 of the energy the world consumes is produced by burning fossil fules coals natural gas and oil They are the cheapest and most effective way of producing energy but we re using them up faster than they can be replaced The problem is fossil fuels are non renewable and limited in supply Despite the promise of alternative energy sources like the ones you ve mentioned above they are renewable energy but they collectively provide only 7 of the world s energy needs Source Energy Information Agency and they are still a far more expensive option Perhaps the best solution to our growing energy challenges comes from The Union of Concerned Scientists No single solution can meet our society s future enery needs The solution instead will come from a family of diverse energy technologies that share a common thread they do not deplete our natural resources or destroy our environment nzyjordan said on 30 August 2010 at 2 35 AM right now nuclear Post your comments Latest Topics CDL s E Gen Challenge E Generation Challenge13 Recycled Stationary

environment is not harmed when doing experiments Does any one agree with me that an environmental science module should be compulsory in the education on sciences 2 Comments victortky said on 27 August 2010 at 6 51 PM Hmm it certainly can help educate the students on learning on how to go green while teaching them science In this way students can learn something else besides knowledge the skills they can apply to everyday life to go green hanfei said on 29 August 2010 at 8 20 PM i think it is acceptable as an optional module but not as a core module because i feel that students should excel in what they want to learn this will maximize our resources eg teachers Post your comments Latest Topics CDL s E Gen Challenge E Generation Challenge13 Recycled Stationary Items Deposit refund System Plant Vs Plastic Popular Keyword Tags Environment Go Green Green Green Building Media Power Consumption Recycling SP Youth environment global warming go green going green green media paper recycle recycling spenv House Rules We do not tolerate rudeness personal attacks and or purposeless inflammatory posts Ever Please stay on topic If you d like to be random start

short there are some people who go on nature hikes and then whip up their satellite phones to call for helicopter help which will always come if they find the water too salty 1 Comment johnngxe said on 30 August 2010 at 5 13 AM Once again I find myself amused and amazed by what humanity has to offer The article raises an intriguing question Have we been pampered by technology If so how do we take steps not to become over reliant on it Anyway the best course of action would be to educate the masses and hope that enough people get a good upbringing to mitigate the damage caused by ignorants like these Post your comments Latest Topics CDL s E Gen Challenge E Generation Challenge13 Recycled Stationary Items Deposit refund System Plant Vs Plastic Popular Keyword Tags Environment Go Green Green Green Building Media Power Consumption Recycling SP Youth environment global warming go green going green green media paper recycle recycling spenv House Rules We do not tolerate rudeness personal attacks and or purposeless inflammatory posts Ever Please stay on topic If you d like to be random start a new thread Read More Disclaimer The advice

not they re attacking ships which hunt minke whales which are totally not on the endangered list The japanese whaling industry kills less than 600 minke whales a year on average There are some 100 000 minke whales in the wild Now it would be different if Sea Shepherd were attacking ships that actually hunt endangered species we d have something to talk about As it is right now they re antics are nothing more than a pathetic cry for attention johnngxe said on 30 August 2010 at 5 26 AM For the greater good is the first step down a very slippery slope of justification in my opinion Now in this particular case I d say that aggressive tactics are extremely detrimental to the environmentalism as a whole Not only do you affect the livelihoods of the whalers you waste so many resources such time money effort raw materials in used in building repairing the boats and so on From a legal perspective you generate even MORE hostility on both sides and thus everyone loses Post your comments Latest Topics CDL s E Gen Challenge E Generation Challenge13 Recycled Stationary Items Deposit refund System Plant Vs Plastic Popular Keyword

more waste using their money It is true that the affluent purchase more items due to their ability to thus it will just be another sort of tax for everybody This system may cut down waste production and disposal but will undoubtedly put the less affluent at a disadvantage because they will have another bill to pay sandyyy said on 29 August 2010 at 2 50 PM Though true this system has its loop holes as it might not affect the more affluent who are capable of paying however I do see the advantages of this system which undoubtely is working well The most evident one would be the significate reduction of trash Regarding putting the less affluent at a disadvantage because they will have another bill to pay as mentioned by angrysnail my point of view differs I certainly don t see it as a disadvantage for the less affluent as the implemention of this system would likely be a pushing force for them to learn more about recycling and reusing so that they can keep their trash consumption at the lowest and might even help them save more money in the process Post your comments Latest Topics CDL
