Not every youth is apathetic to the environment And i would say that in fact probably all of them know about the environmental issues and threats that face us but the main point is that some of these youths are showing their apathetic attitude because they are already used to their daily lifestyles and habits So they are not motivated to take the effort to go the extra mile So rather than discussing this point why not take a different perspective Discuss on how we can get these youths to come on board the environmental wave and really take a pro active stance towards combating climate change Post your comments Latest Topics CDL s E Gen Challenge E Generation Challenge13 Recycled Stationary Items Deposit refund System Plant Vs Plastic Popular Keyword Tags Environment Go Green Green Green Building Media Power Consumption Recycling SP Youth environment global warming go green going green green media paper recycle recycling spenv House Rules We do not tolerate rudeness personal attacks and or purposeless inflammatory posts Ever Please stay on topic If you d like to be random start a new thread Read More Disclaimer The advice offered by the creators or readers on this

and cultivate this unique habit since the effects are not instantaneous I would support more of BYOBD at it s current pace Definitely not on a daily basis that would have negative effects on the business on all participating outlets I shared the same thoughts of the previous qoute like At most we return the items to the cashier without buying is one of the many detrimental results expected from daily BYOBD After reading much of the comments and websites I believe that BYOBD campaign aims to educate the future generation primarily rather the current folks As such it was implemented on an incremental pace since 2007 p1068957 said on 20 December 2010 at 5 06 PM Jiying To me personally i felt that it is a very good campaign Apart from that till today it did not actually achieve success when it first launches this campaign i felt happy that people has already start to conserve the environment by recycling your own bag But think again what are they using to recycle It is still a Plastic Bag which is non biodegradable why couldn t we follow people in America that uses a bag paper bags to hold own stuff after shopping but i can t defeat the idea that indeed it was an effective campaign as it does rises awareness to human beings in the world to conserve the earth to protect the earth Indeed in Singapore i realized that more people are aware that they should protect the earth and many shopping malls or supermarkets practices BYOBD or to provide shoppping bags that can be bought at the cashier counters And that certain people would actually purchase the recycle bag and uses it instead of using plastic bags At the same time you would also see another kind of people which are those Kiasu type of people that requests for more than one plastic bags when they made payments at the cashier counters Hence in overall it was a very useful and great idea of BYOBD campaign But in terms of how effective it is i believe that it has still got a long way before it really achieve success jxchin said on 21 December 2010 at 12 11 AM I personally agree 3 R reuse recycle renew is the way to prevent environment become bad But i total disagree that The Bring Your Own Bag campaign will a not good way because some will be willing to pay for the bag and some will go any day other than that day And during sale season and weekend the usage of the bag is more compare to weekday And why the campaign is not set on every weekend the usage of the plastic bags will reduce much more because lot of people tend to go shopping on weekend weichao said on 22 December 2010 at 8 56 PM I feel that BYOBD has being quite effective as much more shoppers individuals are using reusable bags in Singapore when doing shopping and etc By doing this action will make Singapore a better environment and clean to live in But not all singaporeans is doing this as it inconvience and not practical for office worker working as many people forget to put reusable bag in their office bags when they are rush for work from their house What i can conclude here is that peoples still need time to adopt to this BYOBD campaign han said on 23 December 2010 at 3 38 PM To me personally This BYOBD campaign is not as effective as it seem It is only held on Wed which most of us usually wont go shopping on that day As jxchin said if held in weekends it is much more meaningful of this campaign Thus it will carries out the real purposes of the BYOBD campaign It is true that every effort you put in counted Fortunately more peoples participate in this campaign even though it is not held on Wed Therefore i hope more peoples will carries out this BYOBD campaign into part of their daily lifestyle This way singaporeans will be more positive and actively toward gogreen activities zjj said on 25 December 2010 at 11 46 PM In my opinon this campaign is not so effective First only a few people will go shopping on wednesday this means the campaign is not so popular Second people will prefer the convenient mart which offer plastic bags Some people may think that government should introduce a new policy which all shops should stop using plastic bags However there is a large amount of people who reuse plastic bags to contain rubbish and throw them away Some of them really have environmentally conscious but they cannot find any repalcement which is as cheap and conveinient as plastic bag Consequently if we cannot find a suitable substitute singaporeans cannot reduced the use of plastic bags ozrj said on 26 December 2010 at 9 47 PM I feel that the BYOBD is not very effective as very little people are willing to bring reusable bags Most of them will feel that it is very troublesome to bring reusable bag everywhere they go and they would rather give up on the discount given for bringing their own bags and even to pay for the plastic bags they use Of course there are still a handful of people who are willing to bring their own bags on the BYOBD However they are too used to using the plastic bags given and very often will forget to bring the reusable bags in the end they still have got to use the plastic bags the shops provide In my opinion more days of a week should be made the BYOBD so that Singaporeans are get more exposed to situations in which they have to use their own bags instead of using the plastic bags provided I believe that the campaign will be more effective in that way as people will

will be a better idea Singaporeans especially teens does not like to wear second hand clothes By making use of these materials to make something new will appeal to teens and the market more Emily yeesuan said on 03 December 2010 at 12 48 AM in my opinion this concept would only work if the old clothes are sold at a cheaper price as compared to the prices at retail outlets I believe Singaporeans being very kia su would not mind selling their old clothes to earn some cash and people wouldnt mind buying clothings that are in good condition and at a cheaper price hence we have a win win situation here If customers are concerned of the hygienic issues the salesperson can explain that new clothes from factory actually contains chemicals that are harmful to their skin if not being washed before it is worn by the user Which is true Hence For both new clothes and old clothes we need to wash them to ensure that they are clean and hygienic to wear If this concept is used in Singapore the main factor that would determine the success or failure or the idea is the mindset of the salesperson how he she sells the item and how he she convince the customer to buy recycled fashion items and not the customer s perceptions YeeSuan samanthawong said on 03 December 2010 at 6 57 AM I think that this concept might not work in Singapore Selling of 2nd hand clothes yes it s a great idea and it can be seen in US and Europe However if you bring forward this concept in Singapore how many customers can you attract and how many of them will purchase from the store Very little people will not even bother looking or going into the store if it does nt attract them rima92 said on 03 December 2010 at 8 17 AM This concept might work in Singapore however it requires much of effort from both parties Singaporean The Charity retail shop to make the concept works Singaporean who don t mind purchasing clothes second handed with the mind of helping the needy and poor so that the money could go to the charity and also the owner of the Charity shop who needs to publicize their shop now and then to ensure that shop gets the attention of the public It might take time and effort but its definitely worth the try Rima sapphirexz said on 03 December 2010 at 10 04 AM I think that this is a unique concept as Singapore hasnt had it yet However it would perhaps work more for apparels such as caps accesories shoes instead of shirts and pants and also taking in account that they are in good condition Personally i would not buy second hand shirts or pants unless they are of a very unique design and if i feel its worth it but i feel that it might work amongst teens

into and limit the contributor and also done prevention as much as possible In my perception I think the rapidly growth in technology is the major contributor to the greenhouse gas concentrations kevinliew has also further elaborated the contributor Nowadays people is stressing on more advance technology despite without their knowing the technology is producing greenhouse gas to the air In fact global warming and climate change have already affected some part of the world by a little Example small islands at risk to sea level rises longer duration of drought oxygen depleting that affect ocean life etc Global warming and climate change are already grounded with actual fact by scientist and researcher thus I do not think that it is blown out of proportion In a nutshell I disagree that we are over reacted and blown out of proportion pinyi said on 02 December 2010 at 10 01 PM I do agree with Wenhui s point in which that if the issue of global warming is not exaggerated people may just continue the life that they are used to and continuing to harm the world in terms of the energy we consume and the trees we are cutting down Educating the future generations would be the most important part in curbing global warming Global warming may not have a direct impact on us in our lifetime but we do have the responsibility to keep the Earth fit for future generations irfanizzul said on 29 December 2010 at 8 17 PM Firstly I believe that scientist or the prophet of doom are not GOD Only God can predict it However it is better to take precaution Firstly we do not want to live in environment where air water and land are polluted No human can survive in those type of place Secondly if we do not take action now things would get worse For example just like you mention there will be global warming Burning forest is not going to solve the problem of cutting the forest It only make the matter worse Instead of cutting one the fire spread to more tree and more tree that are not meant to be burnt are burnt Not only it create haze there will be also loss of habitat for animals Littering too can create air pollution It maybe a small thing but if people keep doing it a small issue can become a big issue What I saying all this is it is better to be prepare than panic when time comes Human just do not tink before they act And they only act when time comes puzzle said on 29 December 2010 at 11 26 PM Everyone is worry about the issue of global warming but had anyone thought of the advantages of global warming Everything have their two sided story even global warming Global warming causes the temperature of the world to increase resulted the melting of sea ice lost of habitat for animals However it will benefit those
