  • Lee Li Qun
    of Technology Management Office of Venue Management Adjunct Faculty Members Faculty of Dance Faculty of Mother Tongue Languages Faculty of Music Faculty of Theatre Faculty of Visual Arts Library SOTA Organisation Chart Lee Li Qun graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Chinese Studies and thereafter obtained her Post Graduate Diploma in Education at the National Institute of Education Singapore Prior to joining School of the Arts Singapore she taught Higher Chinese Chinese Literature and Appreciation of Chinese Culture for fifteen years at Anglican High School AHS In AHS since 1994 she was appointed as Higher Chinese Chinese Literature and Appreciation of Chinese Culture Coordinator to develop lesson plans teaching materials and assessment methods In 2000 she was awarded the prestigious Inspiring Chinese Teacher Award She was also in charge of the Chinese Drama Society CDS and China Immersion Programme She also pioneered the AHS Heritage Centre Committee which garnered her the Outstanding Contribution Award Team Category Heritage Centre Committee in 2005 During 2008 in recognition of her contribution in sustaining the value added for GCE O level Higher Chinese results for three consecutive years she was awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award Team Category Higher Chinese Sustained Achievement Having been actively involved in the Harmonica Orchestra and Chinese Orchestra since junior high school and varsity years Li Qun has cultivated an ardour for the arts Since taking charge of CDS she has also cultivated a deep passion for drama Besides watching performances regularly she has also led CDS to achieve several accolades Since 1999 she has organised six public performances and painstakingly motivated students to cultivate an appreciation of Chinese drama Li Qun is passionate about life and is a volunteer at the Chinese Development Assistance Council CDAC In 2000 she travelled

    Faculty of Visual Arts Corporate Office Management Office Office of Corporate Communications Office of Faculty Administration Office of Finance Office of Human Resource Office of Procurement Office of Property Management Office of Student Affairs Office of Technology Management Office of Venue Management Adjunct Faculty Members Faculty of Dance Faculty of Mother Tongue Languages Faculty of Music Faculty of Theatre Faculty of Visual Arts Library SOTA Organisation Chart Lim Jong Yann was awarded the Public Service Commission Scholarship Teaching and subsequently graduated with Honours Second Upper from the National University of Singapore NUS majoring in Chinese Language and Chinese Studies She then went on to obtain her Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Nanyang Technological University NTU before getting certified by Mind Transformation as a practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming NLP Before joining SOTA Jong Yann was Subject Head of Co Curricular Activities CCA at Nanyang Junior College It was a large portfolio requiring her to plan strategise and oversee the development and day to day running of all the school s CCA programmes Of note was her contribution as Head of the Aesthetics Committee which saw her charting the college s ARTS programme to inculcate a greater appreciation for the arts in the students Jong Yann is also a strong advocate of mental skills She co designed and piloted a college wide mental skills programme targeting at coaching students to help them achieve peak performance in both the cognitive and physical domains She was also an integral member of the Student Leadership Committee and was actively involved in creating opportunities and platforms for student leaders to develop their potential Effectively bilingual Jong Yann has a deep passion for the arts especially in singing and dancing She is also experienced in stage management due to her active involvement in managing major school

  • Loo Geok Tuan
    of Venue Management Adjunct Faculty Members Faculty of Dance Faculty of Mother Tongue Languages Faculty of Music Faculty of Theatre Faculty of Visual Arts Library SOTA Organisation Chart Loo Geok Tuan obtained her Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Chinese Studies from the National University of Singapore and her Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education She taught at Raffles Girls School Secondary for 16 years and has been a trained Gifted Education Programme teacher since 1995 In 2003 her lesson on the teaching of the origin of Chinese characters based on Understanding by Design UBD principles won her a Merit Award in the National Creative Teaching Strategy Competition In 2004 she co presented a paper at the Gifted Education Conference titled Planning of Chinese Curriculum Applying Understanding by Design and the Sharing of Teaching Experience in IP School In 2005 her lesson plan on the teaching of Chinese idioms won a Complimentary Award at the National Secondary and Primary Schools Chinese Creative Lesson Plan Design Competition In 2008 she co presented a paper at the 10th Asia Pacific Gifted Conference titled A study on differentiated learning in the classroom As a language teacher Geok Tuan believes that

  • Pon Sundararaju
    his BA in Tamil Language and Literature from Madurai Kamaraj University He received his MA in Tamil Language and Literature from Chennai University Prior to joining SOTA Mr Pon was in the teaching service from 1970 to 2007 He served as a specialist writer in the Curriculum Development Institute of Singapore for Primary Schools and was Head of the Preparatory Course for Tamil Division at the Ministry of Education MOE He was also Head of Department for Mother Tongue Languages in Chong Boon Primary School and Upper Serangoon Secondary School His passion for the teaching and learning of Tamil language and literature earned him the honour of becoming the first Tamil language teacher in Singapore to become Master Teacher for Tamil Language Mr Pon s love for the Tamil language inspired him to be a writer at the tender age of fourteen To date he has written 40 plays for television and 30 plays for radio He has also written numerous short stories and published two book compilations of his short stories His short stories are well received by the Indian community as they focus on issues challenging the Indian community His latest publication Pon Sundararaju s Padaipugal was highly commended by a number of well known people in the Tamil literary field A good number of his short stories and plays have won first and second prizes in various literary and creative competitions over the years His contributions to the literary and creative field have won him the prestigious Kalai Chemmal award by Singapore Indian Artistes Association and the Thirukural Award by Singapore Tamil Language and Cultural Society in 2005 In 2007 he received the Pulamai Thendral award by Tamil Nadu s World Tamils Society in recognition for his literary talents and contributions Mr Pon has presented research papers

  • Tan Ching Yee
    a Ministry of Education MOE Teaching Award scholar and she subsequently earned her Bachelor of Arts Honours degree Second Upper from the National University of Singapore NUS majoring in Chinese Studies and Chinese Language She was awarded the Special Book Prize Chinese Language for best student in Chinese Studies She then went on to obtain her Postgraduate Diploma in Education Secondary from the National Institute of Education NIE Prior to joining SOTA Ching Yee has taught in Crescent Girls School since 2004 Besides being the level coordinator she was also the teacher and coordinator for the Chinese Special Program teaching Chinese to non Chinese students She then went on to coordinate the Conversational Chinese Program between Secondary and Primary schools while participating in the design of teaching materials with the Ministry of Education MOE CPDD Working Group Committee for this programme She was also involved in the School Twinning Programme with several schools in China and India She has a crucial role in setting up Photographic Society as a Co Curricular Activity CCA in school Within 3 years she has built a firm foundation for the CCA grooming award winning members in cluster schools and national photography competitions To pursue her other passion in Photography she joined SOTA as an Adjunct Chinese teacher since 2008 while practicing as a freelance photographer and photography instructor Her works have since been exhibited at various national and international photography exhibitions and festivals With a keen interest in art she has been involved in various art activities In Crescent Girls School she was the editor and layout designer of the School Magazine Committee She participated in a Teacher Work Attachment at the Mint Museum of Toys during the school holidays and helped the museum to come up with a Secondary Educational Guide booklet for
