SGBC Home About Us Organization Structure President s Message President s Message Mr Tai Lee Siang President Singapore Green Building Council Going green is great And essential Indeed it s a matter of long term survival not just for business but also for all of us and our future generations Global warming and climate change have become an imminent threat in Singapore where the carbon emissions are expected to reach 77 2 million tonnes by 2020 if there is no policy intervention from the government according to the latest National Climate Change Strategy 2012 NCCS 2012 report The surge in carbon emissions come from all sectors of our economy including our community with the biggest rise coming from the manufacturing sector which will account for 60 3 per cent of these emissions The refining and chemical industries are projected to make up as much as half of Singapore s forecast 2020 emissions levels while the transport and households sectors are expected to account for 14 5 percent and 7 6 per cent of emissions by 2020 respectively At SGBC we see our key role in helping to minimize carbon footprint in the building sector We would like to complement the government s measures and incentives to drive the building and construction industry towards greater environmental sustainability and also to galvanise the overall community both here and overseas to collaborate with us to reduce the nation s carbon footprint So how can we spread our message and encourage an environmentally sustainable landscape And how do we erase misconceptions of green products so that consumers can make informed choices on products and services that are truly green With more companies jumping on the green bandwagon to offer a plethora of green products many consumers have become increasingly confused or harbour misconception that
