Lenovo Thanks to the kind folks of Su Min Text100 and Derrick Lenovo I got to lay my hands on this mini yet functionality packed Lenovo S10 One might agree with me that it s not the best looking net book out there but yet it s decent and boy this net book can perform and lived up to my expectations This was the review unit that was on loan to me I was a little worried I will dirty the white S10 but my fears were unfounded because it doesn t catch the dirt at all and even if it does get dirty the surface of the material makes it easy to clean Woohoo Now you all know why I don t like white coloured gadgets The surface feels very smooth and the pearl white elegance just shows off itself The curves are in the right places and yet it feels light despite looking a little thick but that s a very small issue The speakers are located in front and that all the ports are nicely arranged by the sides A USB port card reader projector port and power adapter slot Though I wished the power adapter slot can be pushed to the back of the fan The head phone jack and the microphone jack plus Ethernet port and an unknown slot I don t know what is it for 2 USB ports is very decent for such a small net book Something subtle in the front to indicate the status of the net book surely rocks for the LED lights are not too bright till it becomes a glare Looking good I would say The keyboard is comfortable to type and gives a nice sound without sounding too plasticky however the same cannot be said for the touchpad I find it nice to use but the buttons are too noisy lol and it got quite a bit of attention during class Oops One thing to note on the touchpad is that it is multi touched enabled a quick pinch zooms out the document and spreading motions zooms in on the document very useful feature indeed I thought it could be improved by allowing one to control the sensitivity of it because at times it will just zoom in or out on its own accidental gestures which makes it a little irritating I like the matt screen and despite it being small graphics displayed were sharp and crisp and the vibrant colors make everything look good on screen The built in camera is useful for video calls on the go The memory card slot easily reads both the Memory Stick Pro Duo and the SD Memory Card Though it makes it sticking out of the card slot No major complains but have to be a little more cautious of trying not to damage the cards because I pushed them in quite hard on the first try thinking that the entire card will fit into the card reader slot

feel that the highlight of the phone is the camera features which more or less makes it up for the lack of wifi But for shooting pictures on the move this camera packs a good punch Shot this right outside Samsung Building at Church Street using normal settings Another picture highlight would be the photo shot at GeekTerminal and that I shook the camera by quite a bit to test out the anti shake function Slightly blurred but not bad compared to the amount of shaking I did and the camera did its best to compensate the shakiness The macro shot didn t fail either For more pictures shot with the pixon here s the embedded slideshow So much for raving about the camera Let s move on to the other features of the phone Though the Pixon runs on its own proprietary OS it s still pretty easy to use and the qwerty keyboard interface is a breeze and joy to type messages I also manage to try out the Browser which displays pages properly and allows one to tilt to landscape mode as well Now you see the complete package with the lanyard and the USB cable Tried the lanyard with the phone but found the lanyard cumbersome A optional stylus came with it though I must say I didn t use the stylus throughout the review period but I find the design cute and looks very much like a wand This is how it looks like when opened and when its closed The call quality of the phone is fantastic and also the quality of sound from the FM Radio and MP3 is pleasant to the ears and that one can use your own earphones should you not like the ones that came along with the Pixon And last but not least let me touch on the Software The USB connections go here same as for the charger and earphones plug Note that the USB cable comes with its own proprietary connector which means a generic USB cable won t do The PC Studio allows your phone data to be backed up and synced in a jiffy In fact the phone allows 3 modes of data transfer when you plugged it into the computer You can treat it as a Mass Storage device the Pixon must have an Micro SD card inserted Media Player to put in music or the PC Studio mode to sync and backup data The PC Studio runs on Flash and has loads of icons making it intuitive and easy enough to perform all the tasks Here you see me transferring the photos out of the Pixon to my Hard Disk and the visual indications gives me a clear idea that a data operation is still in progress The data transfer rate is very fast and my 40 odd pictures were transferred within 5 mins To top it off the battery life of the Pixon is decent to say the least Moderate usage
