scenes set in the rain accentuated by a melancholy hoodie wearing person walking in slow motion The kind of music where you picture someone walking and thinking You don t need to get hyped up or jump around or anything If it makes you think then that s objective met You might even break a small smile Photo by Han Qi Guang MOSHIN 2012 All Rights Reserved I have to admit I felt a bit weird at first though Singaporean acts are so typically upbeat and rock based that you sometimes forget the feeling of listening to music that encourages you to wander This was the kind of performance best enjoyed in the recesses of your mind and with your eyes closed And it was Chris haunting voice that pushed me towards a journey within my mind during which each song that was played made the perfect backdrop You would then have to forgive me when I say that I neither noted down what songs were played although his upcoming album s first single Anchor Bleed was certainly among them nor really paid attention to the dynamics of the show or the individual band members prowess But there s a good reason for this Photo by Han Qi Guang MOSHIN 2012 All Rights Reserved Each part of the set up fit perfectly into making the music drawing and leading Had a single part been inconsistent with the overall direction of the sound it would have been really obvious and jolting especially for someone swimming in his own mind i e me Of course there were certain parts that lifted the energy a bit especially when Chris broke out a drum to beat on during a song But overall it was just a really nice journey and while this music might

  • Journey With Pitch Feather
music still burned ardently even during this period of uncertainty and normalcy Photo by Clarence Aw Courtesy of Pitch Feather We had difficulties completing our full line up mainly lacking a permanent guitarist said drummer Hongliang Frustrated by the endless ordeal we decided to roll with the punches and started this project with just three of us This time round we decided to record and produce a bunch of songs Alberta vocalist had written during the dormant period Pitch Feather was then formed in late 2011 The band certainly have not embarked on a smooth path as a local homegrown band Noting that the band is entirely self funded there were several obstacles and challenges that the band has came across Instruments recording equipment and software can be costly Having to take time off from our busy schedules to meet up to produce music is another challenge stated Hongliang Photo by Clarence Aw Courtesy of Pitch Feather However these hurdles we go through as a band all seem worthwhile when we see a song evolve from infancy to its finished form It is an extremely rewarding experience especially since we compose record and produce our own music from our humble studio he added Inspired by the intrinsic values of life Pitch Feather s upcoming album contains a collection of heartfelt songs each with a story or a message behind it Thematically this album revolves around life and its fragility Life and death happiness and sorrow hope and despair are some of the themes in our music admitted Hongliang The mood is slightly somber with a tinge of melancholy but the main message behind the album is simple Treasure life with all the things and people that matter In today s world there are many distractions in life It is important

band members complemented each other and exuded a strong sense of unity which aided them in attracting the attention of almost everyone in that compact space Photo by Han Qi Guang MOSHIN 2012 All Rights Reserved During the performance Edwin and Victoria also affectionately known as Veek were mouthing the lyrics while grooving to the reverberating sounds they were making Their natural reaction towards the music they played rubbed off with many It was also amusing to find Veek barefooted when many were freezing in the club despite having jackets on Their fiery passion was undoubtable Photo by Han Qi Guang MOSHIN 2012 All Rights Reserved Following that entertaining performance was an emotional number Hope From The Gallows The creative drum beat from Bryan created a tinge of a groovy dance y feel at the beginning of the song The subsequent warm lead guitar riffs not only laid the foundation of the song but also added richness to it The musical arrangement expressed the band s genuine optimistic nature That positivity was what inspired their music According to Bryan The Summer State got their name from the phrase summer state of mind and through their name they wanted to show others that it is possible to have fun and be carefree They also covered Best Of Me by The Starting Line an American pop punk band that was quite popular in 2002 Despite tweaking the tune a little their uplifting gig stirred the crowd and got them singing along In our opinion their participation in Noise Singapore s The Apprenticeship Programme with Dave Tan from Electrico as their mentor might have helped them shape their sound The band carried on with another passionate original named Revenge Revenge Revenge Bryan delivered excellent harmonies At certain points one might be wondering if
