  • LEWA International :: Edible oil production
Solution The advantages of the LEWA ecodos pumps in edible oil refining Hermetically tight diaphragm pumps Maximum operating safety Good cost benefit ratio Robust drives designed for continuous operation Patented 4 layer sandwich diaphragm made of pure PTFE Emergency operation even with a diaphragm fracture indication Food compatible wetted materials Because of the outstanding features of the LEWA ecodos in systems in the edible oil industry other pump types are increasingly being replaced LEWA is a one of the leading producers of hygienic compatible designs of pumps and systems and can supply accordingly certified products Background Process description Pressing or extraction are generally used for the production of oil from seeds and fruit Oil that can be extracted without external addition of heat by pressing is called cold pressed oil This oil may not be refined These oils are ready for use after filtering and filling However the higher the temperature the higher the oil yield This leads to pressing under the addition of heat Using temperatures of 100 C is referred to as hot pressing Raw oil extracted in this manner must absolutely undergo refining This term is understood as a combination of physical and chemical processes to remove undesirable and environmentally related components such as Phosphatides Free fatty acids Coloring Odors and flavors Waxes Heavy metals Pesticides from the raw oil Essentially classical refining consists of the following operational steps De lecithinization Degumming Deacidification or neutralization Bleaching Deodorization Beside this classical chemical refining physical refining is also significant It is technically more complex but only has two combined process steps the degumming and prebleaching or deacidification The major advantages are its lower environmental impact and reduction of refining losses The disadvantage is that a significantly improved degumming is required depending on the type of oil Definitions De lecithinization

  • LEWA International :: Pumps and systems for sustainable processes
are continually increasing For conveying and transfer tasks the use of process diaphragm pumps instead of centrifugal pumps is the most energy efficient and cost effective solution Oscillating positive displacement pumps were inspired by the human heart in the way they operate and are therefore just as high performance efficient by nature Hermetically tight to protect the environment and secure the product quality Due to their design diaphragm pumps work without dynamic seals This permits a hermetically tight working area The advantage No emissions to the outside critical substances cannot escape and contamination of the fluid is impossible In addition mechanical seals and pressurization systems are obsolete With their technical leak tightness LEWA pumps satisfy IVU Directive 96 61 EG Energy independent location independent and emission free solutions Laying power lines in network remote areas is uneconomical LEWA thus offers chemical injection systems with solar operated metering pumps If solar electric operated pumps rule out LEWA ecosave metering pumps use a lower differential pressure directly at the gas source 0 5 bar The pump returns the used gas back into the pipeline and it is not emitted Long service life and high reliability with low maintenance costs LEWA develops pumps and systems for high availability annual continuous operation 8 000 h and for a service life of over 25 years Assuming continuous operation over several years we calculate total downtime of at most 3 days In other words LEWA assumes an availability of up to 99 Given normal operation the operator can expect these service lives for the most important components Diaphragms e g PTFE up to 20 000 hours Pump valves up to 8 000 hours Hydraulic valves pistons up to 30 000 hours Crankshaft bearings 70 000 hours Motor bearings 50 000 hours Crankshaft casing failsafe Optimum pump
