    figures released by the Singapore National Employers Federation SNEF Mr Koh Juan Kiat Executive Director of SNEF noted in March that Since 2007 more than 170 employers have committed to over 750 employment opportunities to persons with disabilities under the Open Door Fund The job vacancies for persons with disabilities doubled that seen between 2007 and 2009 Yet while there is more interest from employers in hiring the disabled is the current pace of hiring the disabled adequate How does this interest translate into actual jobs for the disabled Unfortunately there are no official data on the total number of disabled employed in Singapore The good news though is that there appears to be more publicity devoted to hiring the disabled With more publicity there is greater awareness which hopefully will lead to even more job opportunities for the disadvantaged In addition the EEN which was established in 2007 gives out awards to recognise exemplary employers for their efforts in hiring and integrating persons with disabilities The Government too has been very supportive It launched the Open Door Fund in 2007 to provide financial support to redesign jobs modify workplaces and train people with disabilities The Government has also introduced the Special Employment Credit scheme providing the employer with a credit of 16 per cent of the disabled employee s wages and Workfare Income Supplement scheme in which the Government tops up the wages of workers from special education schools In addition the Assistive Technology Fund helps disabled students and employees purchase assistive technology devices for education and work purposes Implement and Evaluate Remuneration Programmes Provide Human Resource Consultancy Services Manage Payroll Create Human Resource Strategies Aligned with Business Needs Implement Strategies to Employ Retain and Re Employ Older Employees Issue 008 HCS Bytes Lessons hard pressed employers should not
