    East and Dr Foo Suan Fong Principal DHS the EZ COE T L was declared open through a symbolic act of affixing the 4 petals of its logo signifying the coming together of educators from all schools in the East Zone The theme of the Opening Ceremony was Teaching Learning for the 21 st Century It began with a poetry performance by DHS Year 1 students during which the audience was treated to an entertaining and thought provoking recitation about the role of teachers in impacting the minds of the young and preparing them for the 21 st century It set me reflecting on my purpose of teaching and the nobility of my profession as a teacher commented Mdm Annie Tan Ping Yi Sec HOD Craft Technology on the poetry performance Ms Ho Peng s opening address provided a macro view of the critical triangle pillars for success in the educational landscape and a glimpse into what deep pedagogy entailed in the teaching of PE and Music in Hungary She also encouraged all participants to look forward to an enhancement in and greater support for the teaching of 21 st Century Skills such as through the resources provided by the Subject Chapters in AST In the keynote address Professor Hung Associate Dean Education Research NIE and his co presenter Dr Kenneth Lim NIE underlined the breadth and depth of authenticity in learning to bridge formal and informal curriculum They emphasied that it takes a village to raise a kid as we seek to put the Tacit the Social and the Informal back in the development of self directed learners for the 21 st Century The day ended on a strong note with eight concurrent sessions being conducted by nine EZ schools The schools consisting of a good mix of primary
