  • Student Leaders Chung Ling International School Camp Malaysia
day camp I have learnt much about myself my strengths and weaknesses and my areas of improvement Being a rather shy person I was glad that I took the first step to get to know my fellow friends in Group 10 Stepping out of my comfort zone was something unfamiliar to me thankfully I was the only Dunman High student in Group 10 This pushed me to get to know the rest even better and not just stick to my bunch of Dunman friends Despite the language barrier I had a chance to interact with all of my group members and all occupy a special place in my heart This camp has also made me more comfortable with communicating in Mandarin a language I only use when absolutely necessary in Singapore However I have noticed that I still have some reservations about voicing out my opinions to a large group of people and also leading a group I believe that I will be able to improve on this aspect with time I will start with my vice president role in the Symphonic Band and work my way up slowly I have seen and felt the importance of being a good leader and will definitely put in more effort to hone my leadership skills from now on The camp was peppered with many competitions and sadly my group did not win any As clichéd as it may sound competition is not about winning it is really about putting in your best and enjoying the process I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Group 10 and we all know that we have given it our best shot by tirelessly preparing and planning for activities like the campfire night I really love my group for all they have taught me and the laughter

  • Whampoa Community Club Taekwondo Poomsae (Pattern) Competition
Taekwondo Poomsae Pattern Competition a competition which is held once a year where many teams of different belt levels compete under different categories according to their age groups We sent in a total of four teams under the senior category performing the yellow yellow green green and blue belt patterns In preparation for this competition many hours were sacrificed by the teams to practice their respective belt patterns together We had to ensure the standardized height of our kicks and punches and the synchronisation of every move down to the milliseconds Although this was a very repetitive task that was both physically and mentally demanding the teams remained determined and worked hard towards our goal Despite the fact that up till the end we were still unable to perfect the moves we knew that we had tried our best and that we were ready for the competition that was about to take place The competition was a full day event that was split into two parts requiring teams to perform their pattern twice Although for most of us it was our first time taking part in a competition we did not let nervousness get the better of us and managed to keep our cool This tranquility allowed all of our teams to perform the patterns with accuracy power and confidence thus achieving commendable results The team participating under the yellow belt category came in third place while the team that performed the yellow green belt pattern was awarded the Silver trophy Finally the teams which performed the green and blue belt patterns both achieved Gold Overall we emerged first runner up for our category which includes competitors like Victoria Junior College Singapore Polytechnic and various Alumni groups among others This is a significant achievement for the Dunman High Taekwondo Team
