others were curious about how spending time with a foreign family could possibly enrich our lives Fast forward to seven days later everyone enjoyed themselves immensely and looks forward to playing host to our Thai counterparts in January 2013 Upon arrival at the Suvarnabhumi Airport we were pleasantly surprised by the warmth and enthusiasm that greeted us from the Thai teachers and students alike The Welcome Ceremony that was held the next day was also an extremely novel affair There was much fanfare and excitement from the entire school as the Dunman High School DHS delegation was led towards the grand podium After the official welcome speech from the School Director Mr Wiroj Bamrung the exchange of gifts and the badge pinning ceremony DHS students were led to join in the formal lessons of our buddies We spent the rest of the day learning and experiencing lessons in Rayongwittayakom School It was a definite eye opener The rest of the trip was spent alongside our Thailand buddies and teachers We were introduced to the rich Thai culture and learnt to communicate using simple Thai phrases as well as learnt to write our own names in Thai characters Our experiential journey extended to visits to various landmarks in the Rayong and nearby provinces such as the Wat Phra Kaew or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok a crocodile farm and zoo in Samut Prakan town Khao Kheow Forest and Wildlife Park where we learnt about educational ecotourism activities and Pattaya Floating Market the biggest man made floating market in the world DHS students and our respective Thai buddies also had the opportunity to showcase our culinary skills during cooking lessons Here we fancied ourselves great chefs as we were tasked to prepare the famous Pad Thai Thai Green Curry

our top Year 3 Science students who have demonstrated their exemplary talents and obtained outstanding performances in Sciences This programme was handled by a special department the Centre for the Advancement of Science Education CASE headed by Professor Chen Jwu Ting The main rationales of setting up a Taiwan Science Programme are to enable our students to appreciate the history culture education economics and politics of Taiwan and allow them to learn more about the scientific research fields in the National Taiwan University and other partnering research institutes By attending the one week programme we also hope to nurture values and positive attitudes towards scientific inquiry and research and to forge and establish long lasting friendships between our local students and the students from Taiwan so as to strengthen the bonds shared between us The programme started with a tour around the NTU campus and the students had a glimpse of many of historical places which are remnants of World War II including the Fu Garden 傅園 the Fu Bell 傅鐘 the Palm Boulevard 椰林大道 and the Drunken Moon Pond 醉月湖 to better understand the history of the university and appreciate the university life within the campus Through visits to places such as Gallery of NTU History Agricultural Exhibition Hall Pavilion of Dreams Pavilion of Taipei and the Suho Paper Museum the students were exposed to different facets of Sciences and would be able to better appreciate the knowledge gained It was a general consensus that our students enjoyed most during the hands on sessions both on the Paper making experiences and Life Science experiments Many students were motivated to make their own papers at home using the secret recipe given by the demonstrator The use of advanced equipment in Gel Electrophoresis also enthused the students in the Life Science
