    The Board will however consider the merits of the case before coming to a decision Advocates and solicitors are required to pay an annual fee of 500 for appointment or reappointment as Commissioner for Oaths In the event of an unsuccessful application or a withdrawal of application at any time and for any reason an administrative fee of 53 50 shall be imposed Non advocates and Solicitors Commissioners for Oaths who are non advocates and solicitors are as at date of appointment to have at least GCE O Levels or their equivalent and be at least 21 years old Non advocates and solicitors pay an annual fee of 100 for appointment or reappointment as Commissioner for Oaths In the event of an unsuccessful application or a withdrawal of application at any time and for any reason an administrative fee of 26 75 shall be imposed Applications for Commissioners for Oaths have to be submitted online by 31 January and 31 July each year for appointments commencing 1 April and 1 October respectively Late applications will be rejected Notaries Public Subject to the discretion of the Board of Commissioners for Oaths and Notaries Public the internal guidelines used for the fresh appointments of advocates and solicitors as notaries public are as follows Notaries Public as at date of appointment are to have no fewer than 15 years experience in active legal practice and or legal service as the case may be and be at least 40 years old The Board will generally apply a quota for the appointment of Notaries Public depending on the size of the firm in which the applicant practises The table below provides general guidance in this regard 1 to 5 lawyers 1 notary 6 to 10 lawyers 2 notaries 11 to 50 lawyers 3 notaries 51

    On same working day as the date of submission of documents except on Eves of Christmas New Year and Chinese New Year 80 25 The fees are payable upon submission of documents For cheque payments please make the cheque payable to Singapore Academy of Law NETS and credit card payments are also accepted and preferred Appointment Singapore Academy of Law is the statutory body that appoints Commissioners for Oaths and Notaries Public who practise in Singapore Commissioner for Oaths Notaries Public Commissioners for oaths who are advocates and solicitors are only competent to take any affidavit or affirmation or for the swearing of executors and administrators and of taking and receiving Statutory Declarations in accordance with ss 68 2 c ii 68 2 c v and 68 2 d of the Supreme Court of Judicature Act Cap322 Commissioners for oaths who are officers in the employment of Government ministries departments statutory boards Government linked companies and employees of designated non profit organisations are eligible to take and receive the documents specified in Schedule I of their applications and subject to such other limitations as the Senate of the Academy may determine or as may be stated in the certificate of appointment Commissioners for oaths who are court interpreters may administer oaths in accordance with Section 68 of the Supreme Court of Judicature Act Cap322 subject to such other limitations as the Senate of the Academy may determine or as may be stated in the certificate of appointment A notary public s duty is to attest deeds contracts and other instruments that are to be used abroad and to give a certificate of the due execution of such documents duly authenticated by his signature and notarial seal Unlike commissioners for oaths a notary public is in a position to witness a
