    houses a collection of 60 000 children s books and audio visual items The collection is chosen to support the five literacy practices of playing talking singing reading and writing The library is also designed with conducive spaces that promote parent child bonding The library was officially launched by Ms Sim Ann Minister of State Ministry of Communications and Information Ministry of Education on 10 April 2014 Launch of Bilingual Picture Books by SEED Institute and the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language 28 March 2014 A new set of bilingual English Chinese picture books for pre school children produced by SEED Institute and the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language will be distributed to all pre schools in April 2014 Sponsored by the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism the books encourage children to build vocabulary through stories that impart values such as co operation sharing and caring for the community You can also enjoy the stories in English by downloading the app here Launch of Bilingual Picture Book by Linn Shekinah 28 February 2014 A new bilingual English Chinese and English Malay picture book for pre school children written by local writer Linn Shekinah was launched on 8 Feb at the Singapore Philatelic Museum Sponsored by the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism the book titled The Asian Spice Kid Star Anise Superstar uses the theme of Asian spices and is suitable for children aged 4 8 Launch of Bilingual Picture Books by Dua M 2 November 2013 Two bilingual English Malay picture books developed by Dua M Pte Ltd with sponsorship from the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism was launched at the Singapore Writers Festival 2013 Written by Rilla Melati Bahri and Sharon Ismail the books titled Ati s Baju Melayu and Makan Time are for children aged 4 6 At the launch the two authors conducted storytelling activities and games with children using the two books 2nd Mother Tongue Languages Symposium 14 September 2013 The 2nd Mother Tongue Languages Symposium was held on 14 September 2013 at the Suntec Singapore Exhibition and Convention Centre Themed Mother Tongue Languages A Garden for Joyful Discoveries the symposium aims to promote bilingual education and share Singapore schools and the community s efforts in promoting Mother Tongue Languages through creative and engaging programmes The inaugural Outstanding Pre School Mother Tongue Language Teacher Award 2013 was also given out at the event Launch of Fun Games for Learning Mandarin 12 September 2013 To promote the effective use of games in Chinese language learning the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language and NTUC s SEED Institute have jointly developed Fun Games for Learning Mandarin with sponsorship from the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism The games will be used in pre school centres here Launch of Thumbs Up Little Junior 16 August 2013 The Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism has supported a new bi weekly Chinese Language publication Thumbs Up Little Junior developed by the Singapore Press Holdings This 12 page full color

  • About the Fund
    Bilingual education is a cornerstone of our education system Learning English and the Mother Tongue Languages helps prepare our children to plug into a globalised world and strengthen links to our Asian heritage The Fund has been set up to supplement efforts by the Ministry of Education MOE in the teaching and learning of English and the Mother Tongue Languages What the Fund Does The early years are important for setting a strong foundation in language learning The Fund aims to nurture a love for bilingual learning in our children from young in the pre school centres homes and in the community Strengthening our efforts to encourage bilingualism in the early years especially in listening and speaking capabilities would enable our children to build a stronger foundation for language learning in their later years Our Structure The Fund is managed by a Board and advised by an International Advisory Panel IAP of experts The Board is supported by a Project Evaluation Committee PEC Publicity and Outreach Committee POC Investment Advisory Committee IAC and Audit Committee AC The Board members are Name Designation Mr Heng Swee Keat Chair 王瑞杰 主席 Minister for Education Ms Sim Ann Vice chair 沈颖 副主席 Minister

    Applicants and their Supported Proposals Home Call for Proposals Call for Proposals Call for Proposals The Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism invites you to submit proposals to promote bilingualism among pre school children Bilingual education is a cornerstone of our education system Learning two languages helps Singaporeans plug into a globalised world and strengthen links to our Asian heritage Research has shown that exposure in early years is effective for nurturing bilingualism and the learning of multiple languages Strengthening our efforts to encourage bilingualism in the early years especially in listening and speaking capabilities would provide our children with a headstart in language acquisition and lay a stronger foundation for bilingual learning in their later years If you have ideas that have the potential to create an impact on promoting bilingualism among pre school children in pre schools at home and in the community the Fund invites you to submit your proposal Interested applicants can refer to the Fund Application Guidelines and complete the Application Form below For proposals on teaching and learning resources programmes and events Fund Application Guidelines Application Form For research proposals Fund Application Guidelines Application Form Applications can be submitted on an on going basis
